I am a first year medical student at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston interested in doing long term medical missions in a region that is considered un-reached and interested in being mentored by someone who has done or is in the process of preparing for long-term medical missions. I have been interested in combining my future profession with evangelism and discipleship since middle school. During high school and undergad at Baylor University I went on mission trips to Ghana and Kenya, which have exposed me to what serving in very low-resource settings is like. While in Kenya I began to develop the skills and desire to do community-based research, as I studied the effectiveness of a maternal/infant health focused community health worker program for my thesis. My senior year at Baylor University, I helped form a Christian pre-health fellowship through which I was able to get to know Dr. Nathan Smith, a physician in Waco who recently left to serve as a missionary in India. Now, I am looking to find another mentor locally who has done or is in the process of preparing to do long-term medical missions.
