A native of Northern Ireland, Andrew Scott became president of OM USA in July, 2010. He joined Operation Mobilization in the late 1980s and served on the ministry ship Doulos for 2 years. His life was dramatically changed by the experiences and training he received while onboard. As a result, Andrew committed to further theological training and graduated from Belfast Bible College. Though his initial plan and desire was to immediately go back out to the nations as a missionary, God redirected him through a call from one of the largest Baptist churches in Ireland to be their Associate Pastor. Sensing God’s leading, he served there for three years. During this time God impressed on his heart the importance of the Church in His plan for the world.
Andrew and his young family returned to OM's ship, Doulos, for a five year term. He was one of the senior leaders and oversaw the ministries focused on those on board, including pastoral care, Bible teaching, leadership development and mentoring. Having travelled to over 75+ countries and experienced the incredible needs and challenges in those countries, he felt God leading him to become “part of the solution” through mobilizing people to go and serve in missions. In 2002 he joined OM USA to lead the Recruitment Department with a focus on college students. Through his many visits to universities, he saw that many of the students had a desire to live their lives for a greater cause and were looking for a place and a group to serve with. The next years were given to helping to clear that path for their service.
Andrew recently completed writing his first book, entitled Scatter. His desire is that it will inspire a new generation to “scatter” into the hardest, furthest and darkest parts of the world, where they may experience an incredible adventure with God.
Even though there is much discussion about the role of the West in modern missions, Andrew truly believes the Great Commission is still relevant in the American church
