Central America in the late 1970s and 80's shaped and nurtured me spiritually and professionally. I served as a volunteer nurse in Nicaragua 1976-79 and then as co- director for Mennonite Central Committee there 1985-90. Several other shorter term assignments have been in Guatemala and El Salvador. I continue to work in public health and global health education, multicultural studies and leadership in humanitarian responses.

I am now developing a new program in Humanitarian Action Leadership at Eastern Mennonite University with an undergraduate minor, a graduate certificate and training component. See https://emu.edu/cjp/humanitarian-action/
