In May I graduated from Eastern University with a B.S. in biochemistry. I am currently taking a gap year while I apply to medical school. This year I am volunteering in hospitals, working as a math tutor, and babysitting. Since middle school I have loved learning about, and traveling to, other countries. I have participated in a number of missions trips and each time I have been grieved by the numerous people suffering from curable diseases because they do not have access to health care. So in high school, when I became deeply intrigued by the functions of the body in my first anatomy class, I began to consider the possibility of a career as a primary care physician in a third world country—a wonderful manifestation of two of my major passions. I especially love South and Central America and after I graduate from medical school I would love to move to a Spanish-speaking country to practice medicine. While on medical missions trips in South America, I found that I loved helping the primary care doctors while they saw patients in small village clinics. I could see myself doing something like this in the future. Wherever I end up, I would love to be involved in furthering God's kingdom by making steps toward "making man whole" through the tool of healthcare.
