In 1994, after practicing Interventional Cardiology for 15 years, I took my first STM to Ethiopia. Upon returning, I quit my position as practice manager of CVA the following year and worked towards retiring completely from cardiology in 2000 at the age of 52 to do volunteer medical missions work.

Starting in 1996, I both initiated and directed the Global Missions Health Conference for ten years with 220 in attendance at our first conference in 1996 and >2500 in attendance at the 10th year anniversary in 2005, after which I stopped directing the conference.

From 1994 through 2010, I both participated and/or led multiple STM trips from 10 days to one month including Ethiopia (multiple times), Gabon (multiple times), China, India, Romania (multiple times), Guatemala, Afghanistan (twice), and Zambia.

Starting in 2006, I gathered a group of interested professionals in Christian Urban Healthcare and we started the concept of a Christian Healthcare Center in Western Urban Louisville. In 2011 we opened the Shawnee Christian Healthcare Center, which received the FQHC-look-alike status in 2014 and the full FQHC status in 2015. SCHC now has four providers at four clinic sites including our main site at 234 Amy Avenue, as well as school clinics at The Academy at Shawnee middle/high school, Atkinson Elementary School and Maupin Elementary School. Over 800 patients were seen in the March 2016 calendar year. I am currently the Board Chair of the Shawnee Christian Healthcare Center.
