Member Bio

For the past several years, I have been living in Tanzania, East Africa with my family. We serve with ReachGlobal as part of an equipping team, training pastors and leaders in Tanzania and in other African countries. My specialty areas include Community Health Evangelism, Women's Health and HIV & AIDS education. My journey into this field started before my graduation as a nurse in 1989. I spent my early years as a hospital-based nurse working in maternal/child and public health education. In 2000, I started writing maternal/child health curriculum part-time for Medical Ambassadors International and eventually became a staff member to take on the HIV and AIDS curriculum. In 2006, my family moved to Tanzania to become Community Health Evangelism practitioners, trainers, and country coordinators. Some of our greatest success has been with the Maasai people of Tanzania. During our first term in Tanzania, I coordinated a network of organizations to address the issue of HIV education among the Maasai people. Together, we developed a program to bring HIV education to the Maasai people using their language and cultural stories to encourage changes in high-risk traditional behaviors. In 2011, I had the privilege of conducting a program and impact evaluation while completing my Master's Degree in Public Health. The results have been tremendously encouraging. We hope to encourage others who are working with indigenous peoples through the results of the evaluation.
In addition, for the past several years I have been utilizing the maternal/child and women’s health curriculum. The main purpose has been to decrease maternal /child mortality and morbidity rates, but also to share the love of Christ with women who may have never experienced it. Through the program we have seen tremendous positive impact on women and their families. Interest in the program has continued to grow. In January 2012, I took on the role of Women's Cycle of Life International Consultant for Africa.
