My name is Jolie and I am from Willis, Texas. I graduated from Concordia University Texas in April 2014 with my Baccalaureate of Science in Nursing and received my nursing license in June 2014. That summer I worked at Camp Bethesda, a camp for adults with special needs, as the camp nurse. Following that, I started working at Houston Methodist St. Catherine on a long term acute care unit in the nurse residency program for new nurses.
Throughout college I was a part of the campus Service-Learning team where we worked together to organize service projects for students. I mostly lead groups to Bastrop, Texas after the wildfires in the fall of 2011. We helped to remove debris from burned homes and to rebuild homes. I was actually had an internship opportunity the summer following the wildfire with the county disaster relief team. It was an amazing opportunity to serve the community and work with hundreds of volunteers. I have also been to Joplin, Missouri with a mission group from my university to assist after the tornado hit. We were there for about a week serving by cleaning up debris.
Most recently, I have been on mission trips to Chevak, Alaska with Can-Do missions in the summer of 2013 and 2015. We go to lead Vacation Bible School and bible studies in bush villages where they often don't hear about the love of God. These trips have truly changed my life. I love being able to connect with the teenagers through our teen Bible study and make friends with all if the kids. They are so joyful no matter their situation!
I love missions and being able to share the love and light of Christ by serving. It's an amazing thing when you see the joy in people's eyes when you talk about Jesus and they get it. I feel like I can use my skills in nursing to make a difference through medical missions now and know it's was God is calling me to do next in my life. I just need to figure out my next steps!
