W. Michael Smith
Michael (or Mick) Smith, reared in the Atlanta area, has served for several decades in Christian international nonprofit leadership, conflict resolution, organizational development, teaching and consulting.
An ordained minister in the Christian Churches, Michael spent 23 years with Indianapolis-based CMF International. After serving 3 ½ years in a church planting and leadership education role in western Ethiopia, he then spent 7 years in a similar role in Central Java Indonesia. During those years, he worked fluently in 3 different languages. He served as CMF’s executive director for the final 10 years of his affiliation with that organization.
After completing a doctorate with a focus on leadership and organizational development at Fuller Theological Seminary, he taught in graduate theological seminary for 5 ½ years before becoming the chief operations officer for Medical Assistance Programs (MAP) International, a Brunswick, GA-based Christian international relief and development agency. In 2007 and 2008 he led MAP’s design, construction and relocation to a new state of the art medicines distribution center which achieved Silver LEED Certification.
From August 2010 to the present, Michael serves in the southeastern region as a representative of Bread for the World, a Washington D.C.-based non-profit working to end hunger in the U.S. and around the world.
