I was a missionary surgeon at Tenwek Hospital with World Gospel Mission from 1996 to 2016 but have joined Dr. David Stevens as his Executive VP at CMDA national headquarters, succeeding an amazing leader, Dr. Gene Rudd. My family is adapting to life and ministry in our new home in Bristol, TN, not far from CMDA national headquarters. A heart for mentoring and mobilizing the next generation of Christian health care professionals to represent Christ in the US and abroad played a major role in our decision to leave medical missions to join this growing national ministry.
There are a couple of unique aspects to my missionary medical career. The first is that I have been able to be part of a US based Christian group called Southwestern Medical Clinic in Berrien County, Michigan since I completed my surgical training in 1993. This association with a wonderful group of brothers and sisters in Christ who are deeply passionate about medical missions at home and abroad has greatly contributed to my professional and spiritual growth when in the United States. I greatly enjoyed treating general surgery and orthopedic trauma patients at Tenwek Hospital for many years. The other surprise of my professional career has been the discovery of my gifts and aptitude to do administration and hospital management. For over ten years I served as the Medical Director of Tenwek Mission Hospital during a time period when incredible growth in staff, facilities, and training programs has taken place. My undergraduate degree was done at Taylor University in Upland, IN and medical school and Indiana University School of Medicine. I completed a five year general surgery training at Methodist Hospital of Indianapolis in 1993.
