I am starting a residency in General Surgery in July and hope to be a missionary surgeon in Francophone West Africa helping to train local physicians in surgery. I would like a mentor to keep me accountable spiritually during residency and help give me strategies for how to prepare in all other ways for that career (rotations advice, conferences, research, language maintenance). I have gone on several ~2 month trips working under medical personnel and meeting long term missionaries. I have grown up in the church and I am currently involved in the missions committee, but there are no doctors in my home church and my church does not typically send long term missionaries. I have talked with a few missionary doctors for advice during key times in my life but would prefer a more long-term mentor--ideally someone I could meet in person, but I know that is difficult. So, here we are.
