Hello! My name is Stephanie Reynolds and I am currently studying Biology with the hopes of becoming an optometrist. I attend Lee University, which is a private university in Cleveland, Tennessee. I'm relatively new to the world of medical missions. Ever since I was very young, I've had a desire to see the world, but not just as a tourist. I truly wanted to experience and understand the lives of people everywhere. Recently, I feel like I may being called into long-term missions. It's all I seem to be able to think about, particularly of countries in southeast Asia such as Bangladesh, Nepal, and Cambodia. I don't want to call it a "burden on my heart" because I don't feel that "burden" is the appropriate word; it is actually rather thrilling, even if it does make me a little nervous. However, I do feel that maybe my passion for other cultures was part of God's plan all along and now he wants me to put it to good use. For now, I'm praying to be sure this is what he wants, but for the first time I truly feel like I may have found what I am meant to do.
So far, I don't actually have any experience doing missions outside of local charity clinics. Unfortunately, opportunities to serve abroad have been extremely rare. I have only been offered one medical missions opportunity and I was foolish enough to turn it down. When I go to optometry school, I fully intend to join the SVOSH and FCO clubs there so I can serve with them. But for now, I'm here hoping that I can meet someone who has experience in things like this and can help me and hopefully to find a hospital or organization that I may be able to work with later on. This is all so exciting!
