Burnout among healthcare workers is at record levels, and working in an underserved area is a significant risk factor. While there is increasing awareness of the problem, effective solutions have been elusive. The development of resilience is a key factor in the prevention and management of burnout. This session will help participants deepen their understanding of burnout and take steps to prevent it.

Complex Humanitarian Emergencies are affecting more than 30 nations and millions of people's lives. In these situations the physical and psychological health of the victims of such emergencies is greatly affected. As health care workers we need to understand the common morbidities and mortalities that result from these emergencies. In such emergency states we need to focus on the most common diseases prevalent and understand the importance of public health measures we can take to help reduce the morbidity and mortality associated with these diseases. CHEs are stressful situations and healthcare workers also need to know how to best prepare themselves physically, emotionally and spiritually before working in such difficult situations.
