From a Pioneer in North Africa:
On one ordinary day here in North Africa, God brought an opportunity for me to be an agent of healing in the life of a little girl and inspired me to allow my Muslim employee to help me. Little did I know the impact it would have on him and her.
Each day, a small entourage of boys comes to our house to play and hang out for a while. But one day a few weeks ago, one of those boys brought his 5-year-old sister, Naima*—a practice that is a bit unusual for boys who want to play with their friends. We noticed that Naima had a significant facial infection. A bad tooth caused her pain and disfigured her face because of the terrible swelling. Her family didn’t know how to help her, so she learned to chew on the other side and to deal with the pain. It even impaired her vision. They said the effects of the infection were only getting worse.
So as a means of witness to Elias*, the guardian of our property, I asked him to accompany me on a visit to Naima's home to help me with language. Together we visited Naima’s home. We talked to her mother, but she asked us to come back the next day when her husband would be home. After a trip to the pharmacy, we did return with 10 days worth of medicine for the infection. (It cost me all of five dollars, and my guardian pointed out that it was very expensive!) I gave them the medicine, explained how to use it and prayed over little Naima as they all observed in wonder.
A few days later we went back to check on her and didn't even recognize her. The swelling had completely resolved and the pain was gone. I brought the good news to Elias as soon as we returned home and it was powerful to see his face light up. I didn't realize the depth of what God may do in his heart through all of it. Praise God that we were able to minister to this family and establish deeper roots with them. And through it all, Elias was able to witness a small part of God’s story and healing power.
Please pray for Naima’s family and for Elias to know Jesus, the true healer. And pray for us as we look for ways to reach out to our neighbors and employees with a display of Christ’s love. We thank the Lord for the training and expertise in medicine to minister in practical ways.
