A Story from colleagues in western Thailand, near the Burma border...
Dying in Christ
August 2013
Itui and her husband Naing Oh (a Burmese/Mon couple) came to receive treatment at the TB-Sala [shelter] at Kwai River Christian Hospital. They were young adults diagnosed with TB-Meningitis and were HIV-positive. They heard the Gospel for the first time at the hospital. Itui was open to the message. She was good at handicrafts, so Lydia [RN] kept in regular contact with her. Lydia gave her a Burmese Bible which Itui read regularly and also read it aloud to her husband. Later, a Burmese pastor led them to faith and they were baptized in 2012. They attended services in two different churches on Sunday - eager to hear the Word of God. They shared their faith with all their relatives in Myanmar and Thailand by phone as they were not able to travel.
In April 2013 Naing Oh became very sick and was hospitalized. He shared that he and Itui were not afraid of dying any more. Itui looked after him in the hospital ward and read the Bible aloud to him regularly - much to the astonishment of other patients and their relatives, some of whom made mocking comments. Christian friends came and prayed for them several times. After three weeks in hospital Naing Oh went to be with the Lord. Praise God for His gracious work, their faithful witness, and for the power of the Word of God, which they loved and read! (Lydia Eidenbenz, formerly served at Kwai River Christian Hospital [and before that at Manorom Christian Hospital] with her [physician] husband, Martin.)
Please pray for:
• Itui to be a good testimony to her fellow-patients at the TB-Sala. She needs to be there for treatment for least another year. Ask God to give her more friends.
• Those who heard the Word read aloud, that they will not be able to forget what they heard and will come to faith!
• For God's blessing on the ongoing medical treatment and witness in this small rural hospital which serves many Burmese, Thai and tribal people in their area.
Follow Up, October 2013
Itui continues to witness to the other patients that stay in the TB Sala as new patients come through and often shows the Jesus film to them on a portable DVD player (We have the film in Burmese, Mon, Karen and Thai etc). She attends the local Mon/Burmese church in the village where the hospital is placed.
