Cheryl Yennie, Executive Director Update for Hopital de Meskine:
Many of you have heard about the kidnappings over the past several months by the terrorist group Boko Haram based in Nigeria. My visit in February 2014 was in the midst of these threats. As the incidents were getting closer to our hospital in the Far North Province of Cameroon, it was obvious that danger was imminent and the decision was made for our missionaries to leave the area for the time being. In some ways we are saddened by the fact that as of June 4, 2014, we no longer have a missionary presence at the hospital. The deteriorating security created by these events resulted in most of the western missionaries leaving the area since late 2013. Mission leaders felt that not only were missionaries at risk, but their presence made the hospital a likely target thereby placing Cameroonian staff and patients in danger. We pray with expectant hearts that we can return one day soon when the threat has been removed.

Thanks to the diligent efforts of the medical missionaries, the hospital staff has been well-trained and is very capable of continuing the work in our absence. We are still involved in the hospital remotely and can continue to periodically visit the hospital to encourage our employees and friends. Please join us in prayer for both the hospital staff and the Believers in the Far North that they would embrace Christ more fervently and rise to the huge challenges before them.

We do not think the increased danger during these turbulent days is a coincidence, as God is working in our area like never before in our 20 year history in the country. The need for prayer is crucial now. Let’s join together and cover our missionaries in prayer during these days.

Pray that the hearts of man - that cannot be changed by soldiers or governments - will receive the Gospel and will transform to trust Jesus as their Savior. Also pray for God’s protective hedge around the hospital and continued open door for ministry as the hospital employees, with Jesus’ strength, compassion and courage, bring healing to people; body, soul and spirit. Pray that patients returning home with God’s Word and the Jesus film on their phone cards will share it with others.
