Dr. Joel Michelson is an oral and maxillofacial surgeon in private practice with Southeastern Minnesota Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Associates which has five offices in Southeastern Minnesota.
Joel graduated from the University of Colorado in Denver and received his dental training at the University of Colorado, School of Dentistry, graduating Cum Laude. He completed his General Practice Residency at the Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Denver, Colorado the following year. He completed his residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Minnesota, School of Dentistry.
Joel received his board certification from the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and is a Fellow in the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. He is a member of the CMDA/CMDE Commission which plans annual continuing education programs for overseas health professionals. He has lectured on a variety of professionally related topics both locally and internationally including in Kenya, Thailand and Jordan. A long time volunteer at the Good Samaritan Dental Clinic in Rochester, he has also gone on numerous overseas dental mission trips to Africa and Asia. He was recognized with the Minnesota Dental Association's Humanitarian Service Award in 2011. He currently serves on the board of Compassion Evangelical Hospital, Guinea, W. Africa.
Joel was born to missionary parents in Cameroon, West Africa and served as a missionary there for three years after college graduation.
Joel and his wife, Susan, have six children.
