I have just assumed leadership of the Rural/Global/Underserved Education program at UNT Health Science Center, TCOM in Fort Worth. UNT is a leader in training young physicians for primary care and for underserved medical locations across Texas. Their commitment to holistic and humanistic values in medical training attract many students interested in primary care and service to their communities. I will be integrating significant global and underserved rotations into the rural medical curriculum so that our graduates will have robust clinical training opportunities in both rural Texas and rural international sites in several locations. Currently, I am also the director of Global Health at John Peter Smith Family Medicine Residency in Fort Worth, Tx. We are the largest Family Medicine program in the US and also have many residents who choose JPS to train for medical missions and ministry in underserved communities around the world. I spent over 20 years as a medical missionary in Thailand as director of the Bangkla Baptist Hospital as well as founding and directing medical and development ministries in many locations in northern Thailand.
I am presently working to begin Family Medicine programs in Thailand as a joint project with UNT/JPS and Suranaree University and Mae Fa Luang Universities in Thailand. Other partnerships are ongoing in Russia with Agape International and Malawi Africa. These affiliations give us amazing opportunities to provide Global Health Rotations for both JPS residents and students at UNT. In return, we are able to offer programs in faculty development, fellowships and short course education for our international partners. In all things, to God be the Glory.
