Ron Herman

Member Bio

Professor Herman is a graduate of the University of Iowa College of pharmacy. He received his Bachelor’s of Pharmacy in 1976 and his Master’s of Science in Hospital/Clinical Pharmacy in 1978 and completed a concurrent residence at the V.A. Medical Center. Then he spent 6 years in Southern Africa with a mission organization where he was involved in training pharmacists in one of the homelands in that area and was involved with starting up a drug information center. He returned to Iowa City where he pursued a Ph.D. in clinical pharmacokinetics. He worked at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics as a clinical pharmacist in a surgical intensive care unit for two years. He then joined the faculty of the College of Pharmacy in 1994 and has been there ever since. For 7 years he cared for patients in the Burn Treatment Center, and since 2001 he has been director of the Iowa Drug Information Network. The drug information center exists to support those pharmacists and students at clerkship sites away from the University. He has also been very active in Global Health Outreach, participating as a pharmacist on more than 10 short term medical trips and serves on its advisory council representing pharmacy. He has been active in Christian Pharmacists Fellowhsip International for over 20 years and has served in many administrative roles.
