About the organization

Organization

Caritas Djibouti is primarily a ministry to the dispossessed, the poor, the orphan, the abandoned and the ignored of the streets in this small city; the capitol of a stable East African country amidst neighbors with a long history of chronic crisis. We have approximately 250 children of the streets who come to our compound for safety, a meal, a wash, a nap and a movie, some schooling and for health care. Some of our children have grown up with us. We see about 80 children daily (the number varies owing to the vagaries of their lives). At the clinic we treat the normal run-of-the-mill children’s problems: lots of cuts & scrapes, sprains, some fractures, infected bug bites, colds, ear & eye infections, GI issues, along with malaria, dengue fever, trauma from street life and sequelae from a hard life without parental support, “sniffing”, emotional issues, malnutrition, and more, we see about 20-30 people: a 50/50 mix of children & indigent adults.
