Began working in Mozambique in March 1990 through a board-certified FACS missionary general surgeon working in a 120 bed government hospital with a single operating room. The surgeon served as the only physician for the most of the eight years. Due to lack of government resources, the hospital was supplied through the mission which was given considerable freedom in administering the facility. In 1998 the mission was authorized to build and own a surgical mission hospital in the second largest city in the nation. The hospital building has been completed at a cost of one million dollars and now only lacks missionary physicians to become operational.
