Dr. Ottis Layne and Sara Allerkamp, RN, first held medical clinics in Northern Mexico in the Spring on 1986. The people in the villages of Boquillas, Las Norias, and Jaboncillos are a five-hour drive from the closest doctor in Muzquiz, so Dr. Layne and Sara went back year after year. In 1995, Sara and her husband Curtis began coordinating the program and trips. The program is now an independent 501(c)(3) non-profit, serving ten villages and twenty clinics a year. Curtis and Sara make leading and growing Mision De Candelilla their full-time work. They are committed to this region of Northern Mexico and building lasting relationships with our Mexican neighbors.
