We have done many things during our time in Central America, from delivering babies in a mountain aldea (village) in Honduras, to delivering a casket for a dying village elder in Guatemala... from raising an orphaned fox to responding to the tsunami in Indonesia. If it applies to our basic mission , we will give it our best try. But our work does fall in to three main categories: Medical care both clinical and emergency, educational services and disaster relief and preparedness. Because of our location, the people we serve are largely the indigenous Chorti Maya of western Honduras and Guatemala. Descendants of the builders of the great Maya city-state of Copán, they are a hard working, friendly and proud people who now live in severe poverty. 75% of the indigenous people in Honduras live on less than $1.25 USD a day and few have access to health care of any sort.
