In the summer of 2010, I worked with an NGO in Matagalpa, Nicaragua called Puentes de Esperanza that focused on bringing in medical teams from the United States and Canada. One day we were working in a village outside of the city and a nine year old boy approached the clinic complaining of pain under his left arm. After being examined by the doctor, a cyst was found in his armpit. Thankfully the doctor was properly trained in removing cysts of this type and the boy was able to have the cyst surgically removed on the spot. I was there to translate for the boy and explain what the doctor was doing, seeing as he was only under local anesthesia. There was such a powerful presence of the Father as I prayed over this boy and the doctor as the surgery was performed. This experience further expanded my passion for healthcare and my desire to see clinics available for all people, especially in these rural areas.
